The great advantage of the soils of our traditional terrace locations is that they were exclusively created by the weathering of the slate. When building the terraces the area behind the wall was filled up with the mixture of soil and stone which was found on the rock. Furthermore, the area was protected against erosion with a thick layer of gravel. Earlier we used manure as fertilizer – today we only use our own composted pomace.
